Hello,
My name is Cheryse. I am from the beautiful island of Barbados in the Caribbean. As you can tell, I love to learn languages so hence the blog name "Bajan (which means 'Barbadian' in our local dialect) Language Lover".
I believe that I am a "language freak" because of my mother. When I was very young she taught me a few Spanish words that she remembered from school like "dormitoro", "agua", "cocina" and others. I even had this little rag I used to walk around with all the time which I used to call my 'toalla'.
In primary school, the Spanish learning continued. I had an awesome teacher. He was from Venezuela. I learned so much from him. He was a really great artist and ukulele player. He played his original songs for us to help us learn Spanish which we really enjoyed. In secondary school French and Spanish were compulsory for two years. I was lucky to have wonderful teachers at my secondary school as well. Here my love however took a u-turn and went to French. My teacher was just so inspiring. I had the opportunity to host a student from Guadeloupe (a French-speaking Caribbean island) and even got to go to Guadeloupe for an unforgettable week.
Thanks to all of these positive experiences with languages I love language learning and will love it forever. I however don't formally study languages but I enjoy self-studying them. All it takes is the sound of a language to make me want to start learning a new language.
Currently I am studying Korean and French. In the future I plan to restart studying Chinese and Spanish and tackle some other languages like Japanese and Russian.
